The State of Maryland is Accepting Applications for Mobile Sports Betting Licenses

The State of Maryland is accepting applications for mobile sports betting licenses. It came after state regulators began accepting public comments on proposed rules on granting licenses. Also, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission held a public hearing last Friday.

During the public hearing, CEO Arthur Robinson of Full Circle Solution asked the commission to allow the application fee to be refundable. At present, the $500,000 application fee and other charges are non-refundable.

Robinson said the commission should refund the fees if an applicant failed to receive a license. Some sportsbook software suppliers agree with Robinson’s suggestion. Also, Robinson wants a provision that would require soliciting and interviewing women and minority-owned companies.

Mobile Sports Betting Licenses in Maryland

The State of Maryland is Accepting Applications for Mobile Sports Betting LicensesThe SWARC approved a diversity requirement last Friday, according to sportsbook pay per head sources. It would require companies with a mobile license to submit a plan that includes strategies to diversify their company. However, the process is retroactive, and licensees have 30 days after its approval to comply with the rule.

The state is accepting applications for mobile sports licenses until October 21. Also, there’s a limit of 60 mobile licenses. On the other hand, the state is also accepting applications for Class B licenses, which are for small businesses that want to operate a sportsbook. Once approved, companies can acquire more sportsbook players.

Those endorsed will go through one more round of personal investigations that could require as long as 45 days.

In light of this timetable, it is possible that mobile sports wagering could occur near the end of the NFL regular season in December. However, that relies upon endorsement from SWARC and the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission, which directs the sports gambling industry.
